I am currently looking for highly motivated volunteers to assist in multiple areas of my dissertation research.
1) Field Research:
I am looking for scientific divers (AAUS) to help conduct ecosystem surveys aimed at evaluating the influence of predation, disease, and disturbance on populations of herbivorous sea urchins. Briefly, these surveys are conducted around the Monterey Peninsula (Pacific Grove and Carmel Bay) in depths ranging from 5 - 20 meters using transect and quadrant estimates of sea urchin densities.
I am looking for undergraduate and high school students to conduct field research aimed at monitoring sea urchin settlement around the Monterey Bay. Positions are available in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Carmel.
2) Laboratory Research:
Lab research is conducted throughout the year. I am looking for students to maintain animal aquaria (e.g., octopuses, sea urchins, sea stars, crabs), conduct urchin dissections, and process field samples. No experience necessary.
